By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of essential oils and how amazing they are. So you want to try them, but not sure where to start? Take a lesson from my friend Kaitlyn who is an essential oil and all natural guru for help. Keep reading for some of her great tips!
I still consider myself a beginner when it comes to essential oils. Essential oils have always intrigued me, while also overwhelming me. So for the longest time, I ignored them. It is a lot of new information to take in, there are so many brands to buy from, and they can be a little pricey too.
This past year, I began to look into essential oils and I have finally started to incorporate them into my everyday life. I hope this blog can help you get started as well!
Here are a few starter tips:
1. There are so many places you can buy from; dollar stores, TJ Maxx, Kroger, Young Living and Doterra. A company that I love and buy from is called Eden’s Garden. It is reasonably priced, and the oils are still 100% pure. It is also a very helpful site when looking at which oil does what job.
2. When rubbing oils onto your skin directly, you need to dilute them with a carrier oil. I purchased coconut oil from amazon. It is called Viva Fractionated Coconut Oil (For the longest time I did not know this!!! And I would rub the oils on my skin and they would burn).
3. I also purchased roll-on bottles and dropper bottles from amazon to mix my oils in. Super cheap and they go along way.
Where to begin:
The most overwhelming factor to me was the idea that there was this healthier alternative to medicine, and that I had to learn about it ALL. It seemed like A LOT of work, that I wasn’t willing to do.
My advice for anyone who wants to begin using essential oils, is to start out by buying one or two oils. For example, I get headaches easily so my first essential oil purchase was lavender and peppermint. You blend the lavender, peppermint and coconut oil and rub them on your temples and on the back of your neck. Usually within 10 minutes my headache is gone! After buying those two oils, and seeing the results I began to dig deeper into essential oils. My husband struggles with focusing, so my next purchase was Vetiver. I mixed vetiver, lavender and coconut oil, and it helped him focus for any exams he had. I also let my sister use this mix for her ACT, and she went up 3 points (this may have been because she studied, but I like to believe my oils contributed a lot)!!!!!
You can also purchase a beginner kit with every day blends and oils on any site I mentioned above. At first, this was too big of an investment for me, I had to start slowly.
On Eden’s Garden site, there is a synergy blend section to purchase from. I love going on there to read what each blend can be used for. I recently purchased a Breathe Easy Blend and an Immunity blend, they have helped my husband and I tremendously during the flu and cold season.
My most exciting purchase was a very reasonably priced diffuser from Eden’s Garden, and I recieved a Young Living diffuser for Christmas! Now my entire apartment smells like lovely oils. My husband and I can barely fall asleep anymore with out our oils diffusing through out the night.
I hope this was helpful! I definitely recommend essential oils. It is a great alternative for medicine when it comes to small every day things, and they smell really good too!
